Kitchen and Common Room
The large traditional common room combines a sitting area, dining room and self-catering kitchen. It is well-equipped with gas hobs, oven, utensils and crockery, and heated by wood burning stove.
The cosy lounge has comfy chairs, a coal stove and many books, games, musical instruments and a dart board.
There are 22 beds in four rooms as follows: 1 x 8 beds, 2 x 5, 1 x 4.
Both private rooms (for two to eight people) and beds in shared dorms can be booked through the YHA.
The bedrooms are unheated but there are plenty of blankets and hot water bottles. Freshly laundered bedding is provided.

Skiddaw House is off-grid! Limited electricity is generated by solar panels. This powers the lighting but don't expect electric kettles, microwaves or plug sockets here. We do have gas boilers, so our showers are still hot on rainy days. Heating is provided by wood-burning stoves and sheep's wool insulation keeps the heat in (no heating in the bedrooms though). LED lighting, composting and waste recycling, tree-planting in the hostel woodland, and minimising the number of vehicle journeys all help to reduce the hostel's environmental impact.
