Skiddaw House
Highest hostel in Britain
FELL AND TRAIL RUNNING
From the gentle grassy slopes of the Northern Fells to the rocky ridges of Blencathra, the area around Skiddaw House has a variety of terrains to challenge and delight any runner! The hostel makes a great base to train for the Old Crown Round, the Bob Graham Round, the Cumbria Way Ultra and the Fell Side, Carrock Fell and Blencathra fell races.
We also have a few challenges to complete in your own time:
The Cloven Stone Challenge
2.25 miles, 500ft ascent
A dash to the cloven stone and back from the hostel gate. The current fastest time is 18:02 minutes, held by Robin Regan (who was 13 at the time, now 14), of Northern Fells Running Club. Let us know when you are about to set off and we'll time you.
The Skiddaw House Skyline
7 summits, 15 miles, 1600m ascent
Starting and finishing at Skiddaw House (470m), visit the summits of Great Calva (690m), Blencathra (868m), Blease Fell (804m), Lonscale Fell (714m), Little Man (865m), Skiddaw (931m), and Bakestall (673m), in any order and using any route.
