Skiddaw House is situated at Grid Reference NY 288 291 and can be found on the following maps:

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

Bus: Public services X4/ X5 (Penrith – Workington) pass through Threlkeld (5 miles) and Keswick (6 miles).

Rail: The nearest stations are Aspatria (11 miles), Penrith (20 miles- then take X4/ X5 bus to Threlkeld or Keswick), or Windermere (24 miles- then take the 555 bus service to Keswick).

There is no access for vehicles and you must be prepared to walk for at least an hour. There are four possible approaches:

  • From Latrigg car park: go through the gate then follow the path leftwards towards Skiddaw, and bear right after the third gate onto a path that contours round the south-east flank of Lonscale Fell. Follow this path for approximately 3.5 miles to Skiddaw House.
  • From Threlkeld: (park in the Fell car park at the end of Blease Road) follow the track up the east side of the Glenderaterra Valley. After 1.5 miles, the path crosses the valley to the west side and then joins the path from Latrigg car park (turn right). Total distance 3 miles.
  • From Mosedale: Park at the top of the tar road after Swinside, follow the track up the Caldew Valley. The house can be seen from about halfway- total 3.5 miles.
  • From the West: Park in the parking area opposite Peter House Farm and follow the track heading south-east towards Dash Falls. Follow this path all the way to Skiddaw House.
